Bucharest is the capital and the largest city of Romania and many tourists are drawn here each year to experience a city that is rapidly changing. Take heed though that this city may not be for everyone as it was for instance recently named Europe's most polluted city.
Bucharest offers a unique mix of old architecture, bland new buildings and a variety of structures that fit somewhere in the middle. You can see just a few of the things to see and do in the city by taking a moment to watch the Bucharest Travel Video above.
Today the city is a cultural mecca and offers programs that range from theater and music to opera which all draw thousands of visitors each year. International music acts often make stops here to play to the crowds who willingly crowd into stadiums to embrace their new Western heritage.
It's amazing how this city blends past and present as it's not unlikely that you'll witness things like nuns in their habits chatting away on cell phones, flashy and expensive cars zooming quickly past gypsies selling flowers and even carnival type attractions where you'll be enticed to allow a man to guess your weight as you walk down the sidewalk.
If you have an emergency while in the city you can dial 973 or 961 from any phone. If you need to report a fire dial 981.
